Instant Pot Bolognese



With this Instant Pot recipe, you can enjoy the rich flavors of a traditional Bolognese sauce in a lot less time. The end result is a hearty and tasty sauce that goes well with any pasta you like.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, peeled and diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 cans 28 oz each crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh basil, chopped, for garnish
  • Cooked pasta, for serving

Instructions:

Set the Instant Pot to 'Saute' mode

Add olive oil and saut onions, carrots, and celery until softened

Add ground pork and ground beef to the Instant Pot

Cook until browned, breaking up the meat with a spoon

Stir in minced garlic and tomato paste

Cook for an additional 2 minutes

Pour in red wine to deglaze the pot, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom

Add crushed tomatoes, whole milk, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes if using, and bay leaves

Stir to combine

Close the Instant Pot lid and set to 'Manual' mode

Cook on high pressure for 20 minutes

Once done, allow for a natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then perform a quick release

Stir in grated Parmesan cheese

Adjust seasoning if needed

Serve the Bolognese sauce over cooked pasta

Garnish with chopped fresh basil
